How to tape figure skates
Sk8tape Tutorial - How to tape the skates
This guide explains how to apply original Sk8tape to figure skates to protect them from scratches.
This is what is required:
- Scissor
- Cutter knife
- 1x Sk8tape 1,5"
- 1x Sk8tape 3/4"
Before the start:
- The skates must be clean and dry.
- It is recommended to remove the laces.
- Please note: Sk8tape is elastic and stretches slightly when removed from the roll. However, it pulls back again.
Step 1:
The first strip is made with the thin Sk8tape 3/4“ directly on the edge of the sole. Once you are all the way around, cut the tape from the roll. If some Sk8tape has been stuck over the sole, you can carefully remove it with a cutter knife.
Step 2:
For the next steps, use the wide Sk8tape (1.5“). It is best to start at the front and tape towards the back. The strip should be applied lightly over the previous strip.
You now have two options:
Either cut off the roll at the heel (Fig. 2A) or go around once and cut off at the front (Fig. 2B).
Step 3:
Repeat step 2 until you have reached the top of the skate.
Step 4:
Cut off the excess Sk8tape. Trim off the eyelets and lace handles.
Step 5:
Use the narrow Sk8tape to stick strips to the toe of the shoe from the outside in. The strips should also overlap slightly.
Step 6:
Touch up and refine. If bubbles have formed, you can prick them with a needle and let the air out. Use a cutter knife to carefully remove any overhanging tape.
